A lot of companies are starting to ask the same question:
Can coding agents actually use our product?
Not in a polished demo. Not with a hand-held prompt. In the real world.
Can Claude Code, Codex, and other coding agents read your docs, understand your SDK, make the right API calls, recover from errors, and get to working code without falling apart halfway through?
That is the new bar.
Because as more developers rely on coding agents to evaluate, integrate, and recommend tools, your product is no longer competing only on features. It is also competing on how easy it is for an agent to understand and use.
That is where these metrics matter.
Not because dashboards are fun. But because they tell you whether your product is becoming easier or harder for agents to adopt.
This is the most obvious metric, and still the most important.
Success rate tells you how often an agent can actually complete a task with your product. Install the SDK. Authenticate. Make the first API call. Set up a webhook. Stream audio. Handle a common workflow.
If this number is low, nothing else matters.
A product can have great branding, clean docs, and lots of examples. If agents still cannot get to working code, you have a real adoption problem.
Success rate is the top-line answer to one simple question:
Can agents actually use your product or not?
Most docs today are written for patient humans.
Humans can skim, infer, jump between pages, and fill in missing context. Agents are much less forgiving. If your docs are scattered, ambiguous, outdated, or bury important setup steps, agents get lost fast.
Docs quality measures how helpful your documentation actually is during integration. Did the agent find the right page quickly? Were the instructions clear? Did the docs answer the question, or force the agent to guess?
This matters because bad docs do not just create confusion. They create failure.
And when an agent fails, it usually does not file a support ticket. It just moves on.
This is the metric most teams underestimate.
A prompt can eventually succeed and still be painful.
Maybe the agent took three wrong turns. Maybe it retried the same step four times. Maybe it bounced between docs, GitHub, and third-party pages before it figured out the right approach.
That is friction.
Friction tells you how hard your product is to use even when things technically work. It is often the difference between a product agents reliably choose and one they reluctantly struggle through.
Low friction means the path is obvious. High friction means your docs, SDK, or API shape is making the agent work too hard.
That pain compounds fast.
This one is simple and powerful.
How long does it take an agent to go from blank project to working integration?
Fast integrations usually mean the basics are clear. Slow integrations usually mean the agent had to search too much, retry too much, or recover from too many mistakes.
Time to integrate matters because speed is part of the product experience now.
If one tool takes three minutes to get working and another takes fifteen, agents will notice. Developers will notice. Adoption will follow that difference.
You want your product to feel easy, not exhausting.
Agents do not just spend time. They spend tokens, compute, retries, and context budget.
If an agent has to read ten pages, inspect raw source files, retry multiple strategies, and burn through a huge amount of context just to do something basic, that is a product problem.
Cost helps you measure inefficiency.
Maybe a workflow succeeds, but only after a lot of wasted effort. That is still worth fixing. As agents become more common, products that are cheaper and easier for agents to use will have a real advantage.
The best integrations are not just successful. They are efficient.
This is one of the clearest signs that something is off.
Hallucinations show up when agents invent methods, use fake params, guess wrong endpoint names, or cite links that do not actually help.
People often blame the model. Sometimes that is fair. But a lot of hallucination is really a product usability problem.
When docs are unclear, examples are stale, or APIs are inconsistent, agents start filling in gaps. That is when bad integrations happen.
Hallucination is not just an AI problem. It is often a discoverability and clarity problem.
If agents keep making things up around your product, it usually means your product is not communicating itself clearly enough.
This one gets very close to the real issue.
Did the agent use the wrong parameter? Miss a required field? Pick the wrong auth flow? Call the wrong endpoint? Use a deprecated pattern?
Invalid API usage tells you whether agents understand how your product is supposed to work.
This matters because a workflow can look almost correct and still be broken in important ways. The code compiles. The request sends. But the integration is fragile, incorrect, or not production-ready.
If this metric is high, your API surface may be confusing, your parameter docs may be weak, or your examples may be teaching the wrong thing.
The bigger shift
Today this matters for coding agents.
Tomorrow it will matter for browser agents, computer-use agents, support agents, and workflows where more software is used by agents than by humans.
That shift is already starting.
The companies that win will not just have good products. They will have products that agents can actually use well.
